I’ll be honest. We made too much of the 2022, some 638 cases. I have always felt that if we still have wine from the prior vintage when the next vintage is ready then either of three things has occurred. The wine isn’t as good as the previous vintage, the price is too high, or we made too much. Well, if someone had told me three years ago that one of the most awarded wines in our portfolio would be Rosé I would have died laughing, but that is exactly what has transpired. The 2022 was entered into thirteen competitions and came home with thirteen medals. Even Ty Cobb never had an average that good. It won Best Rosé at the Amador County Fair. It won a Platinum medal at the Monterey International, and Gold medals at The Toast of the Coast, The California State Fair and The West Coast Wine Competition. I don’t think the wine’s quality is the issue. We taste all our wines against the competition when we determine our pricing and $24 is more than a fair price. We found some wines at twice that price that were, frankly, unpalatable. So, I firmly believe the excess wine in the warehouse is due to my overzealous enthusiasm for the potential of Rosé. Competing in the tasting room with Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, and two Chardonnays didn’t help much either. So, take advantage of my boo-boo and stock up. Warm spring afternoons will be here in the blink of an eye. For those of you who will have the wine shipped, if you muscle up to six bottles of Rosé, we will get it to you for a nickel.
Cheers and happy 2024.
