2006 "R" Touriga

Return to Wine List

Touriga is a Portuguese variety that is associated by most American wine drinkers with the production of Port. While Touriga is a key participant in many Port blends, the vast majority of the Touriga planted in Portugal is used to make red table wine. This is our second vintage of Touriga and I liken it to a more delicate version of Zinfandel; it has bright fruit flavors with hints of pepper and earth but without high alcohol or robust tannins. I have searched for a mid-weight wine with character and along with Grenache and Cabernet Franc, Touriga fits the bill.

The 2006 Touriga has a carmine color with purple hues. The aroma is reminiscent of a warm raspberry tart, with perfumed floral notes. On the pallet it has raspberry and blueberry flavors with notes of smoke, pepper, and oak. The wine's medium body is soft and supple with a smooth easy finish. This is one of the few wines I produce that is under 14% alcohol and it is ideally suited to accompany a springtime picnic.
