2006 "R" Nostro Vino Zinfandel
Return to Wine List
Tom Dillian's Nostro Vino Vineyard is located on Steiner Road at the eastern end of Amador County's Shenandoah Valley. Tom's Zinfandel Vineyard faces due north and is almost six hundred feet higher than the Massoni Ranch plantings, the home of the "Z" Zinfandel. The Nostro Vino Vineyard is one of the last to ripen in Amador County while the Massoni Ranch is often one of the first.
The 2006 "R" Zinfandel is a bit easier on the palate than the 2005 edition. In addition to being a full percentage point lower in alcohol, the wine's finish is softer than the 2005. The color has medium depth, with garnet and ruby hues. The aroma remains classic briary Zinfandel - warm ripe raspberries, plums and pepper. The bouquet offers plenty of vanilla and hazelnut compliments of the sixteen months of aging in small oak barrels. The flavors deliver juicy almost zippy raspberry and plums with a touch of peppery spice. Richly textured and full of ripe fully softened tannins, the wine's finish is long and smooth with toasted oak flavors and hints of mocha and dark chocolate.
