2006 "R" Barbera
Return to Wine List
GOLD MEDAL - 2008 Grand Harvest Awards
Barbera has become my fastest selling wine. For the past three years the vintage of Barbera has sold out within 60 days of release. I attribute the popularity of this wine to the unique balance of rich ripe fruit flavors, soft full tannins and brightness due to the high acid inherit in Barbera. Barbera is a delight to produce and is an ideally suited varietal for the Sierra Foothills and Amador County, perhaps even more so than Zinfandel.
The color of the 2006 wine is a deep purple with bright youthful hues. The aromas are of fully ripened red and black fruits; featuring blackberries, raspberries and plums. The bouquet shows vanilla and smoke along with milk chocolate and hints of cedar. On the palate, the wine has juicy red fruit flavors and a supple, chocolaty oak component. While the wine has structure, the finish is long and harmonious with hints of mineral and deeply toasted oak. The 2006 edition has a brightness that will foster cellaring and match well with Mediterranean Cuisine.
