The 2005 "R" Nostro Vino Zinfandel is a classic example of how the "Z" and the "R" Zinfandels differ. The 2005 "R" Zinfandel is a big, heady wine. The color has good depth with carmine and ruby hues. The aroma is classic briary Zinfandel; warm ripe raspberries, plums and blueberries. The bouquet offers plenty of vanilla, hazelnut and clove to add complexity and richness. The flavors deliver juicy raspberry and plums with a touch of peppery spice. Richly textured, and full of ripe, fully softened tannins, the wine's finish is long and smooth with toasted oak flavors and hints of chocolate. Be careful of this wine, it has bright fruit flavors and soft tannins that belie the 15.8% alcohol.
